July List Sandwiches and June Wrapup

Hello sandwich friends! It is now July, and man it’s a hot one…

If anybody ever feels like getting me a gift, I’ll take that dragon shirt Rob Thomas is wearing in the Smooth video. I mean, not the actual one he is wearing, I eat far too many sandwiches to fit into a skinny man’s shirt.

Ah, yes, sandwiches. That’s why we’re here after all, not to let the undeniably catchy central guitar riff of Smooth by Santana Featuring Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20 bore an earworm through our skulls. It’s a new month, after all, and every new month brings three new sandwiches for the Tribunal to explore. As always, though, let’s recap the sandwiches we enjoyed in June, shall we?

I personally spent a good part of the month of June repeatedly frying up eggs, thin shreds of cabbage, and slices of white bread to make Gilgeori Toast, also known as Korean Street Toast, and it’s a sandwich I plan to make again and again in the future! We also looked into a type of Hungarian frybread called Lángos. Fried things, cheese, and garlic–the sandwich has three of my major food addictions in one portable package! Finally, we tried (and failed, but not really, but kind of yes) to make the Florentine street food sandwich Lampredotto, a type of stewed tripe in saltless Tuscan bread. June had its highs and its lows, but most of all it was a pretty intense month in terms of the level of effort required. I for one am looking forward to slacking off a bit. So let’s see what July has in store!

In July we’ll be covering Manhattans–these are a name for hot, open-face sandwiches of roasted meat with mashed potatoes and gravy that is used mostly in central Indiana and eastern Illinois, it seems. We’ll also be looking into the phenomenon of how otherwise sane adult Americans have been conned by a children’s movie into obsessing over marmalade sandwiches. Finally, we’ll take on Mezcla, a type of tea sandwich in Puerto Rico featuring a sort-of Pimento cheese variant with chopped spam.

That sounds like a bit of a breather, but who knows what curveballs the month will bring? Stay tuned!

Changes to the List

The Wikipedia List of Sandwiches has been relatively static for the past 30 days. However, we have been adding some things here and there to our List, which is now slated for a third run through the alphabet that will take us through early 2022. Many many tasty things will happen over the next year and a half, and we’ll let you know all about it!

Sandwich Tribunal

The idea behind this site is to explore the nature of sandwichness by eating every sandwich on the Official en.wikipedia.org List of Sandwiches and then to post here about it, preferably with lots of pictures and also words. Sandwich words.
