June List Sandwiches and May Wrapup
Good morning sandwich fans, it’s June 1st, and that means that summer is coming, despite the 50 degrees Fahrenheit temperatures we’ve been having here in the Chicago area. Of course it’s also the start of a new month, and here at the Tribunal, that means 3 new sandwiches to try. But first let’s talk about the terrific sandwiches we tried in May!
We started May with an exploration of the Polish Kanapka, an open-face sandwich that can range from the simple to the fairly elaborate. Next, we tried our hand at Kaya Toast, a Malaysian/Singaporean sweet and savory breakfast treat. Finally, we closed out May with Khao Jee Pâté, a Lao sandwich similar to Vietnam’s banh mi. What a month! These were three great sandwiches, but there are more tasty things ahead in June!
In June we’ll be trying Korean Street Toast, something I know mostly from random promoted videos that show up in my Facebook feed from time to time. It seems to be a real thing though, and we’ll look into it. We’re also going to give Lángos a shot, a type of deep-fried flatbread from Hungary that can be topped with different combinations of sweet or savory ingredients. Finally, we’re going to see whether we can make something like Lampredotto, the Florentine street food consisting of a very particular type of beef offal stewed, chopped, and served in a bread roll.
It should be an interesting month, so we hope you’ll read what we come up with!
Changes to the List
A South African sandwich called Spatlo was added to the Wikipedia list, and we’re adding it to ours.
The idea behind this site is to explore the nature of sandwichness by eating every sandwich on the Official en.wikipedia.org List of Sandwiches and then to post here about it, preferably with lots of pictures and also words. Sandwich words.
