September List Sandwiches and August Wrapup
Greeting sandwich fans, it’s the first of September and we’ve got three new sandwiches to cover on the Tribunal this month. They run the gamut this month, from a Depression-era snack to an overstuffed Caribbean burger to a hyper-regional Chinese-American Frankenstein of a sandwich. First, though, we covered a lot of ground in August that we ought to recap.
In August we wrote about Russian Caviar sandwiches, an item on the List that had escaped our attention until now. We also discussed the Italian Caprese sandwich, a bread-engulfed take on the Caprese salad. Finally, we enjoyed some Balkan grilled meats with ćevapčići, a Serbian/Bosnian/etc. descendant of Turkish kofta kebab. In addition to all that, it was Road Trip Month for the Tribunal, and we were able to bring to you some random sandwiches from Spokane WA, South Dakota, and Minnesota. Man, that’s a lot of sandwiches. And we’ve got more coming for you in September!
In September we’ll be trying the “Cheese Dream,” which appears to be a type of low-budget Hot Brown or Prosperity sandwich, or perhaps a Depression-era US Welsh Rarebit with benefits. We’re still researching it, so it ought to be fun to learn more. Next up are the Chimichurri burgers of the Dominican Republic. Turns out they have little to do with the delicious South American sauce of the same name, but I’m sure we’ll enjoy them regardless. Finally, there’s the Chop Suey sandwich of Salem, Massachusetts, not to be confused with the Chow Mein sandwich of Fall River, Massachusetts which we have already covered.
A mix of tasty and interesting coming up this month, with plenty of both to go around. I’m looking forward to it!
Changes to the List
Not much–the hot dog was removed, it was readded, somebody renamed hamdog to hamglizzy. I don’t know if that was vandalism or if Australia has gotten weirder than we imagined but the edit has stood for a week or more at this point.
Indian frybread tacos were also added to the list. It seems like a reasonable addition and we’ll get it slotted in to our schedule in due order.
The idea behind this site is to explore the nature of sandwichness by eating every sandwich on the Official en.wikipedia.org List of Sandwiches and then to post here about it, preferably with lots of pictures and also words. Sandwich words.
