June List Sandwiches and May Wrapup
Hiya sandwich fans! It’s a new month and here at the Tribunal that means 3 new sandwiches to explore! One of this month’s sandwiches isn’t entirely new, but a continuation of one of last month’s sandwiches, so let’s recap those before moving on to the new ones.
We started May by exploring the Israeli Bagel Toast, a sort of grilled cheese sandwich or melt using the oblong sesame-studded Jerusalem bagels. Next we tried the Portuguese Bifana, a pork sandwich that varies in style but appears to be consistently delicious. Finally, we began an exploration of the Spanish Bocadillo, a style of sandwich that seems to have as many variations as there are kitchens in Spain.
And now, June’s sandwiches!
Bocadillo de Calamares is a bocadillo variant using fried squid, so we will use this opportunity to explore a few more bocadillo types that we missed last month. Bøfsandwich is a Danish style of loaded, perhaps even overloaded hamburger that a friend on Twitter brought to my attention recently and I’ve been looking forward to trying. Finally, Boh Yoh Lau is a butter-stuffed pineapple bun from Hong Kong that caught the Tribunal’s attention when it was mentioned in a Thrillist article on the world’s best sandwiches last summer.
Many good sandwiches will be eaten this month. I can’t wait!
Changes to the List
The Wikipedia list was updated, adding a UK ham and pickle sandwich that may be a variant of the cheese and pickle sandwich using Branston pickle. I will give some thought as to whether that deserves a place on our list, and whether I am up to another go round with Branston pickle.
The idea behind this site is to explore the nature of sandwichness by eating every sandwich on the Official en.wikipedia.org List of Sandwiches and then to post here about it, preferably with lots of pictures and also words. Sandwich words.
