September List Sandwiches and August Wrapup

I’m a little late getting started with the September List sandwiches. As always, I was holed away at my family’s farm in Northeastern Missouri over Labor Day weekend, seeing old friends at our annual Labor Day Hog Roast. Great times were had!

Great sandwiches were eaten in August as well! Sandwich Tribunal celebrated its 5th birthday with an amazing bufala mozzarella and heirloom tomato sub. We looked into Submarine sandwiches, concentrating on Italian-style sub sandwiches. I’ll never get sick of those! We also ate a heck of a lot of tacos in August! You may not think they’re sandwiches, but they’re close enough for me! Finally, we took a stab at Tavern-style loosemeat sandwiches by trying the most well-known of the bunch, the Maid-Rite. It’s been a month of great food, capped off with my favorite event of the year, the aforementioned hog roast!

All good things must come to an end. September’s sandwiches can’t possibly hope to live up to the sky-high standards we set in August, but I’m hopeful there are tasty snacks to be found.

In September we’ll be looking into tea sandwiches after the British tradition. British sandwiches haven’t always been our favorite here at the Tribunal, but there’s a lot of potential in these little finger foods, and we hope to enjoy quite a few. We’ll also be checking out a funny-named sandwich served by Luigi’s Italian Deli in Baltimore, “The Scooch.” Hopefully they still serve it, but I’m sure there are plenty other tasty things to eat in Baltimore. Finally, we’ll check out the vegan BLT alternative, the Tempeh Lettuce and Tomato sandwich. We are smack in the middle of Tomato season, so if nothing else we should get some tasty tomato sandwiches out of it.

I’m looking forward to trying these, and hopefully finding something interesting to say about them.

Changes to the List

Nothing major, just some silly vandalism and some more back-and-forth about whether hot dogs are sandwiches. As of last viewing: they are.

Sandwich Tribunal

The idea behind this site is to explore the nature of sandwichness by eating every sandwich on the Official en.wikipedia.org List of Sandwiches and then to post here about it, preferably with lots of pictures and also words. Sandwich words.

Come visit yer old pal Jeb up in Milwaukee and I’ll talk you to two separate restaurants that both have great TLTs..

A really great alternative to the TLT is a PBLT. Chunky peanut butter mixed with smoked paprika to mimic crunchy bacon, lettuce (or arugula) and tomato on your favorite bread or toast. Optional mayo and avocado to guild the lily.
