August List Sandwiches and July Wrapup

August is a special month for the Sandwich Tribunal. Five years ago in August, we began our “five year mission” to eat all the sandwiches, and August 21st will mark the 5 year anniversary of the founding of the site and our very first post! By the time this month is over, we’ll have eaten and written about 180 of the sandwiches on the List! Of course, the list has grown since the beginning, and we have more than a year yet before we’ll be done. Still, it’s a big milestone, and it’s great that there are a few of you out there who still come check out the site. Thanks for reading!

July was a month of steaks, and who doesn’t like that? We explored the concept of steak sandwiches in general, focusing on a few specific examples, and one that really blew our minds. We also checked out the Steak Bomb, a type of cheesesteak sandwich native to the New England area. Finally, we tried to figure out what makes a burger a steakburger but failed pretty horribly. Still, we crammed a lot of red meat down our gullets, and that can’t be all bad, right?

And now for August’s sandwiches!

In August we’ll be checking out sub sandwiches, hoagies, grinders, heroes, call them what you will. They’re long and tasty and while even here in the US we can’t seem to make up our mind what to call them, we can’t stop eating them. We’re also going to dip into tacos, which aren’t currently on the Wikipedia list, but they’re sandwich-adjacent and frankly, I quite like eating them. Finally, we’re going to look into the Tavern sandwich, or what I grew up calling a Maid-Rite, the loose-meat sandwiches of Iowa.

It’s going to be a great month. Come back and read all about them!

Changes to the List

Nothing important, really, other than the sad saga of a person whose toasted ham and cheese sandwich got cold before he could eat it and he was so sad about it he had to write about it on Wikipedia. Then get a friend of his to write about it. The story was gone as quickly as it came but I think we were all a little touched by it.

Sandwich Tribunal

The idea behind this site is to explore the nature of sandwichness by eating every sandwich on the Official en.wikipedia.org List of Sandwiches and then to post here about it, preferably with lots of pictures and also words. Sandwich words.
