March List Sandwiches and February Wrapup
Hi everyone! Seems like it wasn’t too long ago that I was here telling you about our February sandwiches–and it wasn’t! February is a short month, and I wasn’t sure we were going to get them all done in time, but we managed to, with a flurry of activity in the last week.
We took a look at shawarma, not only the easily available fast casual chains everywhere but some of the more traditional takes on it in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. We also ate a shooter’s sandwich, and what a sandwich it was! Gigantic, full of rare steak and delicious mushroom spread, it was a real once-in-a-lifetime treat. Finally, we got some help from family in Guatemala to explore the Shuco, a Guatemalan street food that enhances the lowly hot dog with guacamole and boiled cabbage.
It was a delicious month to be sure, but there’s more to come!
In March, we’ll be exploring sliders, those tiny little burgers that have been popping up on menus everywhere. We’ll also look at two extremely different types of sandwiches, both called Sloppy Joe–there’s the version I grew up with, along with most of America, and there’s a deli sandwich of the same name with an interesting story behind it native to parts of northern new Jersey.
Changes to the List
No real moves, some knucklehead added knuckle sandwich and it was swiftly removed, for which I’m grateful, as I have no desire to sample one of those!
The idea behind this site is to explore the nature of sandwichness by eating every sandwich on the Official en.wikipedia.org List of Sandwiches and then to post here about it, preferably with lots of pictures and also words. Sandwich words.
I could use a good sloppy joe recipe, so I’m looking forward to seeing you attack that one.
