September List Sandwiches and August Wrapup
Welcome to September my friends! Yes, I am a couple days late on this, as I have been sequestered in deepest Missouri cooking a hog and drinking many beers this weekend. It’s a tough life sometimes here at the Tribunal.
August saw the Tribunal doing what we do best, eating sandwiches and telling you about them. We discussed the Pudgy Pie, also known as the jaffle, and made many variants thereof. We also spent some time with an old favorite, Pulled Pork. Finally, we pulled on our half-assed historical food investigator boots and looked into the puzzle of the Queen Alexandra sandwich. These were some good sandwiches we ate in August. And now, September beckons!
In September we will be trying the Reuben, a well-known melt using corned beef, Swiss cheese, and sauerkraut on rye bread. I’ve had a few Reubens in my day, some good, some bad. Maybe this month I’ll figure out the difference. We’ll also be talking about Roast Beef sandwiches, and I can tell you that yes, I’ve already been to Arby’s once this month. Hopefully we can do better. Finally, I’m excited to be looking into the Singaporean sandwich Roti John, which is a sort of omelet embedded into a baguette and covered with sauces. What could possibly go wrong?
Changes to the List
The Wikipedia sandwich infighting was minimal in August. No real additions, just a little of the usual back-and-forth about whether hot dogs are a sandwich.
The idea behind this site is to explore the nature of sandwichness by eating every sandwich on the Official en.wikipedia.org List of Sandwiches and then to post here about it, preferably with lots of pictures and also words. Sandwich words.
Well shoot. I live 4 blocks from the building where the Reuben was invented. I’ll try to finally churn something out.
Yes please! Also we’re doing Runzas next month. Everything’s coming up El Josho!
