August List Sandwiches and July Wrapup
Hello everyone, welcome to August, wherein we’ll be looking at three new sandwiches and also celebrating the 4th anniversary of the founding of this website. Four whole years of sandwiches! Will I ever shut up about them? We’ve got a couple years left to go in the List, but there are plenty of sandwiches out there that Wikipedia has never heard of, so who knows?
But first, let’s take a look back at July. July saw us driving to Indianapolis to try some sandwiches from Primanti Bros, baking some rolls and frying up some garlicky steaks (and drinking lots of wine) to try the Portuguese Prego, and trying to see what the difference is between St. Louis’ Prosperity sandwich and Louisville’s Hot Brown. (Mostly the Prosperity has ham as well as turkey)
And now, August’s sandwiches!
The Pudgy Pie is a pretty dumb American name for what in other places might be called a jaffle or a toastie, basically a sandwich, savory or sweet, that’s pressed and sealed on the edges in an iron. Pulled pork is a type of barbecue sandwich made with pork butt that’s slow smoked until it can be shredded with a fork, but you all know that already. (Will we acknowledge the existence of crock pot pulled pork? Ah, crap, I just did) Finally, Queen Alexandra’s sandwich is a type of early 20th century British tea sandwich featuring tongue and chicken salad with cress.
Changes to the List
No overall net changes to the List in July, just some debate about the nature of sandwiches and a dreamer who wanted to add s’mores back to the list.
The idea behind this site is to explore the nature of sandwichness by eating every sandwich on the Official en.wikipedia.org List of Sandwiches and then to post here about it, preferably with lots of pictures and also words. Sandwich words.
