August List Sandwiches and July Wrapup
Well, July wasn’t the best month we’ve had here at the Tribunal. The sandwiches seemed promising, but after burning myself out on meatball subs and being less than thrilled with raw beef smeared on a baguette, not even a Cubano variant was enough to lift me out of a funk.
Well, August is a new month. Let’s see what’s coming up.
Mitraillette, like the Martino in July, is a Belgian sandwich served in a baguette. Fortunately, that’s where the similarity ends. It consists of various fried meats, frites (that’s French Fries to you and me) and sauces like mayonnaise or Andalouse. The Melt is an American diner classic, in most cases essentially a grilled cheese sandwich with meat stuffed in (but there are some exceptions). And Mettbrotchen is… ok, well it’s another sandwich with raw meat. But maybe it’ll be better this time?
Anybody out there want to weigh in on any of these sandwiches?
Changes to the List
Most of the edits to the Wikipedia list this month were minor detail and formatting edits. The major exception was the addition–and the swift deletion–of a “folded pizza sandwich” consisting, of course, of a pizza folded in half. Delicious? Indubitably. A sandwich? I’m not convinced but hey, pizza is essentially a flatbread. Stick some gyros meat in there and let’s talk.
The idea behind this site is to explore the nature of sandwichness by eating every sandwich on the Official en.wikipedia.org List of Sandwiches and then to post here about it, preferably with lots of pictures and also words. Sandwich words.
I predict that I will suck at least as hard at writing about sangers in August as I did in July. Sorry.
