May List Sandwiches and April Wrapup
April is over, and part of me hopes I never see another cheesesteak again! The other part of me made myself a cheesesteak for breakfast this morning, so you could say I’m of two minds on the matter. There were some good sandwiches to be had on The List, and while I thought I might end up being the only participant (other than Thom, who came in with a very strong debut post about one of March’s sandwiches, though I suppose that pimento cheese could be considered a cheese and pickle sandwich as well), Drew saved the day with a pair of last-minute entries that brought our total List posts up to a respectable 5 for the month.
Here’s what’s happening in May:
At first glance, chicken salad sandwich sounds like a barren field for inspiration, but the more I think about it, the more I realize how much variation the form will allow. I’m not going to say I’m ecstatic about the sandwich, but I have some thoughts. Chickpea salad sandwiches are something I’ve never encountered, and I can’t find any commercial examples around here so far, though Chicago is fairly well-represented by vegetarian and vegan eateries. There are definitely opportunities for any experienced veggie folks to step in and help out if they want. And the chili burger is apparently an LA thing, so though I’m fairly sure that I can figure out “Take burger. Add chili,” I’d be interested in getting the perspective of a local who might know more about the culture surrounding them.
Please comment here, or shoot us a message on Twitter, if you have some ideas for the sandwiches we’re covering in May. Remember, this is not an exclusive club, so if you have something to say about one of these sandwiches, you’re welcome to come do it. Enjoy!
The idea behind this site is to explore the nature of sandwichness by eating every sandwich on the Official en.wikipedia.org List of Sandwiches and then to post here about it, preferably with lots of pictures and also words. Sandwich words.
Car problems, extra work shifts, rock shows, and baseball season all conspired to get me to drop the ball this month. I’ll hopefully get in on this action.
Random question… if I were to do a post on a sandwich already covered, like a philly or banh mi or whatever, should I throw that on The List, or do it as a random sandwich (randwich)?
For the most part, I’d rather have the List during each month focus only on those sandwiches for the month, and have other ones go under Random Sandwiches. I’ve made a couple of exceptions for posts that were a little late but in general, that’s the plan.
I have no idea why I didn’t think of “randwich” before now. You are both handsome AND clever, Josh
Randwich is a great new word created for this blog! I could maybe do a chicken salad thing. I’ll see how I go…also might talk to my Vegan cafe about chickpea salad, if I ever get there again!
